Two years after the end of the 1956 revolution in Hungary, its echoes have not yet faded away. However, freedom of speech and individual freedom are still just empty words. At this time, a young journalist, critical of the system and social relations, Eva (Jadwiga Jankowska-Cieślak), is unsuccessfully looking for a job. Finally, thanks to the support of the editor-in-chief, she was accepted into the editorial team of the "Prawda" periodical. There he meets Livia (Grażyna Szapołowska), with whom he later shares an editorial room. Livia is an attractive woman, an officer's wife, living in a seemingly happy relationship. She has no idea that her colleague behind the desk, who is a lesbian, secretly has a crush on her. Over time, a subtle thread of sympathy develops between the women. Its emotional tone worries and intrigues Livia at the same time. Their mutual attraction and repulsion, emerging passions and dilemmas intertwined with Eva's increasing professional frustration, lead to events with irreversible consequences.
